Be A Swim Fan in 2024!!!

Michael Ashmore

This is a great year for swimming! Every 4 years, our sport gets put in the spotlight. The USA Olympic Swim Team has never lost a swim meet. Our sport will be on television more than at any other time.

Our club has a strong history of high school aged men and women competing at the USA Olympic Team Trials over the past 40 years. Its a history we should celebrate more because when kids see someone near them accomplish something big, it makes it feel a little more possible for them to achieve.

If you did not know, SMSC had an athlete qualify for the 2016 Olympic Team in a (still standing) American Record in the Men's 200 Breaststroke. Moving forward to Rio, Josh Prenot captured the Silver medal!

As we get closer to June, the ability to watch world-class swimming online and on television will hit its peak. Many sports get that kind of exposure on a much more frequent basis. The connection your child can get - as a swimmer - watching the highest level of the sport is one of the best things you can do to help encourage them to dream.

Most kids get to watch high level baseball, basketball etc every year. I encourage you to take the opportunity to tune in and watch the US Olympic Trials (June 2024) and Olympic Swimming (Paris, August 2024). As we get closer, we'll create a few team events where the kids will be able to watch together.
