Dryland Clothing!
APPROPRIATE DRESS FOR DRYLAND
As part of our mission to develop your kids into healthy, powerful, balanced athletes, our coaching staff puts considerable time into planning our dryland workouts.
What is dryland? Dryland is the slang in swimming for 'land workouts before (or after) we do our swimming.
Exercises that might be included could be jumping jacks, running, body weight exercises, using some of the equipment we have at our disposal etc. We try pretty hard to plan to the skill level and age of the athlete as much as we can.
I have instructed our caoching staff to sit any child that is not dressed appropriately for that groups dryland. And while this is not the first time we have asked for this, now is a good time to review:
- Appropriate shoes - which should be tennis shoes and designed towards being athletic. (No Crocs, no sandals, no school shoes etc)
- Appropriate dress - this would include whatever makes the athlete comfortable. (It does not include dress clothes, parkas, really big jackets etc - we are moving, getting on the deck or ground, sweating.).
- No cell phones. We are on a mission to not have cell phones in athletes hands on the pool deck. In their bag is fine. They are not allowed at dryland.
- Appropriate attitude - for most this is not a problem. But let's all be reminded that this is a SPORT and kids who refuse to participate will be asked to sit out until the swimming session begins.
Of course, all of the above is about success, but it's also about safety and not letting kids get injured.
Any questions, please feel free to chat with your group coach or Coach Mike.
