What Happens When There Is Lightning?
So what happens when there is lightning? Why do we have to get out?
State law dictates that we have to exit the pool any time we visually see lightning - or hear, thunder. It also tells us that we need to exit the pool if any of the detectors for lightning that we have give us an alert that there have been lightning strikes within 3-8 miles.
When that happens - we have to stay out for 30 minutes. Sometimes, when we have seen multiple alerts or have already been out - it's just easier to call practice and try again next time.
None of the coaches like "getting lightning-ed" - but we have all been around enough to realize that most of the time, we are better off just waiting for next time.
