Santa Maria Swim Club Extends Head Coach Mike Ashmore Through 2030

Santa Maria, CA — October 2025 — The Santa Maria Swim Club (SMSC) is proud to announce the contract extension of Head Coach Mike Ashmore through 2030, ensuring his continued leadership of the program he has guided since 1999.

When Coach Ashmore joined SMSC more than 25 years ago, the club had roughly 40 swimmers. Today, it stands as one of the Central Coast’s most respected competitive swim programs, serving nearly 300 athletes and producing excellence at every level of the sport.

Under Ashmore’s leadership, SMSC has developed numerous Olympic Trials qualifiers, including two who advanced to finals on the national stage. He also coached American Record holder and Olympic Silver Medalist Josh Prenot, a defining example of SMSC’s commitment to long-term athlete growth and achievement.

“Our team’s success has always been built on effort, consistency, and respect for one another,” said Ashmore. “The athletes and families here make SMSC special. I’m proud of what we’ve built and excited about what’s still ahead.”

With this new five-year agreement, Coach Ashmore remains one of the longest-tenured swim coaches in California. His leadership has shaped not only the club’s competitive achievements but also its enduring culture of teamwork, sportsmanship, and pride in representing Santa Maria.
