This is a great year for swimming! Every 4 years, our sport gets put in the spotlight. The USA Olympic Swim Team has never lost a swim meet. (Las Vegas, NV) - The SMSC travel squad took 9th place with a young team this past week at the Las Vegas Superfinals. The meet brings together teams from around the region, including Nevada, California, Arizona and Utah. SMSC's small squad of 20 athletes found positions in many finals and managed to score 9th in the team competition with one of the smaller teams in the meet. The darker, colder days of winter are now upon us. Some suggestions for maximizing your child's swimming experience can be found below! Some of them are obvious, but we see a lot of kids walking on-deck that are not dressed appropriately for the sport or for the practice. 1. Athletes should try to come to practice in warmer clothing. (St. George, Utah) - The Santa Maria Swim Club put on an epic performance at the Utah Superfinals, December 8-9-10-11. SMSC traveled with 31 athletes to the annual event to compete against teams from Nevada, Utah, California, Wyoming and Arizona. The Women's team took home the team championship with Noemi Bravo-Guzman winning the high point total for 15-18 girls. The Men's team finished 3rd. For the combined title, SMSC finished 2nd. SMSC's Western Zone Team will compete against some of the best athletes "West of the Rockies."
